NORTH WHALE ISLAND
A film by Trond Ansten and Clemes Wilhelm
with music by Torgeir Vassvik
2026
Two men arrive on a remote subarctic island with basic tools and a bag of salt. For three weeks they live only from what the sea offers and what the land allows to be taken. Without dialogue, the film observes their long days with bright nights, shifting weather, and rhythm of work. What emerges is not simply a story of survival, but a quiet ritual - life reduced to its essential gestures. What forgotten knowledge might still live in the movements of the hand? Gradually the island becomes a place where the boundary between human effort and the forces of nature slowly dissolves.
